Geez. The old psychology degree. That profession never pays enough to justify that college debt.

You should not have married that woman !!!. 250.000 $ in debt plus 14K in credit cards ? , what ?, thats crazy ! . Man, I don't care how hot a woman can be, if she is that much in debt I would not want anything to do with her.

Someone with 250k student loan debts and a yearly income of 55k a year is not marriage material, he or she is a liability for my future income and mental well-being

Yuck what's with the incel brigade that comments on all of Ramsey's vids involving women. (Don't see you fools on the clips of men in trouble). You live in your mom's basement, go watch some self improvement vids instead.

Someone should do a research project on the psychology of psychology majors who go into massive debt for 6 year psychology degrees that lead to careers earning less than many full-time blue-collar workers with 2 year certificates

Would she have married him if she didn't have student loans ?

If I was this man I'd not be in a hurry to pay the loan off.

When he's still making $50k and she's a professor with a practice and no student debt will she stick around??

And people wonder why it's hard to get in to see psychiatrists and therapists. That is ridiculous to have that kind of fee to get that license. The psych board should be ashamed of themselves.

These kind of stories honestly make me glad I got into drugs. I was pressured by both my parents and high school counselors to go (no joke, I was summoned to the office with my father and was told about how I WANTED to go to college, specifically a 4-year right out of high school, no – no community college, trade school are for those that couldn't get into a 4-year, etc.). Chose to study English because I liked reading anyway and was good at BS-ing papers. About half way through is when my substance abuse began, hid that for a while and then it all came out after a failed suicide attempt and hospitalization for an over dose. Funny thing was, everyone around me still wanted me to go to school but I chose to drop out to fix this. It was during rehabilitation that I began questioning the whole system and after talking with a therapist who pointed out the inflated cost of school it dawned on me how much of a fool I had been.

Compared to my peers my debt is negligible. The only one in the hole right now is my husband with under $9000 in student loans for an Engineering degree he never wanted (he originally wanted to join the Marines but was dissuaded by his parents) and had the misfortune of graduating right when the recession hit. We were both idiots for buying into what were were sold. I'm just lucky that what could have been the biggest mistake of my life turned out for the best.

    250k for a psyc dagree?

This is the only thing about Dave that bugs me. Their income is 110k with them both working. Dave's Answer? Double your income. Does he not realize how difficult that is? I'm the breadwinner for my family, so if we wanted to double our income, the easiest way is for my wife to find work with the same pay rate. That isn't an option for these guys. Does he think that they can make 90k delivering pizzas?

Sure she can do private practice….in a couple years when she has experience and a client base. She could maybe move to a bigger town to get a better salary (if her current job doesn't upgrade her with the degree being conferred)…but if they move, HE loses HIS job. And what is his job? Can it be transferred?

Down the road they'll be better off, but none of these things will help them in the time frame Dave wants them to pay it off. I agree, they made bad choices with money and they need to work their tails off, but he's tossing out the solution like it's candy. Bit disappointed, really. Taking 100k to 200k is not the same as taking 30 to 60, or 50 to 100.

$250,000 . Seriously… No woman is such a good lay that I would marry that woman. I would have asked the CALLER if he was suffering from a mental illness.

Dave's dismissal of PSLF continues to amaze me… If she could save, easily, over $100k, why give up that opportunity to live like an untouchable for 5 years and pay way more money!? Because it feels better to be out of debt? That's not just stupid, it's immature. I also believe if he was in her shoes, he would absolutely take advantage of the law, like he took advantage of the bankruptcy laws.
