Let me ask you this, why are you so obsessed with Burger King? Shouldn't you be focusing on what's important instead of bitching about some fast food restaurant that doesn't do any harm to you?

The way to fix the student loan debt is to get rid of educational subsidies and direct that money towards student debt and people who've recently paid off their debts, when all the subsidized loans are paid down junk all the socialist laws around it.

There's a good case for fraud, so it is a libertarian solution.

Of course that won't happen, but it's the best solution.

Freezing interest so at least these companies cannot continue to profit off students is a reasonable way to help these people for now. They need some form of help, and I think this is the bare minimum way to help.

That the government is funding a system where private finance makes large profit from the users of that system is fucking sick. If there's a government desire to have an educated workforce and it requires finance for those students then it should have very low or 0% interest on those subjects that are required and just low interest rates on other courses. The state should invest in its desire to attract and retain the best companies. Why would you want to cripple a generation with so much debt that they take such poorly paid jobs that they'll never contribute to any other portion of the economy.

So, just a flash. I have to pay off any loans that I voluntarily took out. Perhaps tax payers should pay off my mortgage or credit card debt. I couldn't afford to send my children to college. Why should I have to pay to send other people's children to college?

Nobody, on having their debt forgiven, is going to think that is enough. They are going to think that they were saved by government money so more government money is better.

Someone should at least do something about the interest and interest rates on student loans, because my gosh, it’s crazy sometimes.

I am glad Tim Pool brings so many topics up to the center left public, but I almost always find his "prescriptions" to solve the problems lacking in depth thought.

The main problems I noted in your video being graduates have too much debt after schooling, they cannot buy houses and they are pushed towards socialism.

Does freezing student loans effect the demand in the college market? Probably. As the consequences of taking the debt on are removed students entering the market will take this into account and change the cost/benefit equation of going to college, further raising prices and thus student loan balances.

Is housing to expensive for many to enter the market? I would agree, yes. Would more buyers artificially brought to the market be good for the housing market? Again more demand does not make a thing more affordable.

As far as "educated" young people being tempted by socialism. Just an example that college is making people more stupid. Allow student loans to be bankruptable and discontinue federal student loans.

There is no such thing as ‘forgiving’ student loans, it’s tax payers paying off the loans that an adult signed a promissory note to pay. If college wasn’t worth the price then THEY shouldn’t have taken the loans. Everyone makes bad decisions that they have to make up for, it’s wildly unfair to also have to pay off someone else’s mistakes because ‘reasons’.

Canada has a student loan forgiveness program where they freeze the interest for 6 months. I think disabled vets should have their loans discharged absolutely! They never would have been disabled if they had not gone and defended their country I think all governments should take that into account!

  16. Papa Diogenes
    July 25, 2021 at 8:16 am

As a disabled vet, I would say that the current gi bill is a damn joke. The payments are always behind, they want you at 12 or more hours (so you can't really do full time work) and if you have any holidays or closed days you get a percentage (usually fairly significant) you receive less money. Going to college for me cost me just about everything: car, old house, debts now because I had to take a loan out just to pay rent. But then again, that's typical for the big green weenie. It never stops fucking you

How about this: student loans after a particular year became a criminal enterprise – much like many other financial shenanigans. We've bailed out the banks before, so now it's our turn. If you've already paid the initial loan amount or more, you're forgiven. If you haven't, interest is frozen.

    July 25, 2021 at 8:16 am

No. We should NOT pay off student loans. WTF are you thinking? Do you have any sense of values whatsoever? Never support whiners. You think Millennials have it hard because they have a student loan? How about those WWII boys that came back from burying their friends in Europe and fighting Hitler? THEY had it hard. They didn't ask for their loans to be forgiven. How about those people who made it through the Great Depression? Read a history book for God's sake and quit coddling these already over-coddled members of the cry-baby generation. They will toughen up and get with the program or the Gen-Zers coming up behind them will blast past them so fast their collective heads will spin off their necks. Grow up. I am disappointed that you even suggest it.

    July 25, 2021 at 8:16 am

How about if you cant afford to take a loan you just don't and instead live inside your means?
College is mostly worthless now anyway excluding a few degrees there isn't much that an motivated person can't learn by just using Google/Wikipedia.

As a culture we need to stop pushing the narrative that college/university education is everything, it's literally depressing to those who can't get to higher education, it's just as manageable to be a successful person without a College degree.

BK lottery masqueraded as a woke movement, so many ways on which they could have showed that they actually care about the problem and they chose the one that had a chance to bring profit straight away.

    nasty food anyways.😝

$243,000,000 student loan?! Sounds like somebody accepted a loan that was waaaaaaaay more than they needed, then spent what was left over from tuition, books, housing etc and went on a shopping spree or partied it away. The blame lies on both parties-the loaner and the borrower.

    @Tim Pool
I am a disabled veteran, I do qualify for the TPD loan forgiveness but I can't get a doctor to fill out the form. The VA tells their doctor's to never fill out forms for disability or other federal government programs. So, after 6 years of trying to get a doctor to do something, they still haven't.

Any student loan forgivness plan would have to include a complete overhaul and near elimination of publically funded student loan program. If we dont solve the cause of this issue all a forgivness program will do is make it worse.

That's a GIFT, brah. The IRS WILL expect you to pay taxes on those contest winnings.
    How nice of BK.

Also, when a student loan is 'forgiven', that paid amount is treated as income by the IRS and the taxes on that are due immediately.
Forgiving, for example, a $100k loan can leave you with a tax liability of tens of thousands…how forgiving.
