My Vantage Score is 26 points lower than my FICO score,
Also, my FICO score shows 14 years of credit where the Vantage Score only shows 3 years.

    TransUnion VantageScore 3.0

VantageScore 3.0 is primarily an educational score. Your FICO score is the credit score lenders generally use. Most lenders don’t use Vantage scores, as they have been created specifically to act as a free version to keep consumers aware of their credit profiles. Chase doesn’t use Vantage scores for lending either. In fact, if you have a Chase account with a free credit score, you’ll see a different score in this account than through Credit Journey.

Each of the three main credit bureaus–Experian, Equifax and TransUnion–issues its own VantageScore 3.0. The version provided by Credit Journey is issued by TransUnion.

In addition to the credit score, you will also be provided with the score factors that impact your score. Factors that influence your VantageScore 3.0 include:

    Payment history

    Age and type of credit

    Percent of credit used

    Total balances to debt

    Recent credit behavior and inquiries

    Available credit

Thanks for your great video! My Vantage score is 720, but my FICO is zero, since I'm on the new side! I'm totally confused about whether to apply for a Capital One Secured card, to help me build my credit?LOL!

Great video Adam! So, here’s my biggest question: Is it true that one of the biggest distinctions between Vantage and FICO is that FICO measures the status of closed accounts?

Example – I have 8 revolving accounts and two installment accounts that are currently open. The revolving accounts are all very new and the installments are about three years old. Revolving account utilization is currently reported at 9%, but I don’t carry a balance and haven’t been charged interest on any of those 8 cards.

I also have 5 revolving accounts that are closed. They were credit cards that were maxed out, eventually charged off and all went to collections. I am currently working on paying those off.

My question is according to Vantage, my age of accounts is only measuring the 10 total open accounts. However, I have heard FICO also takes into consideration the average age of all accounts – open and closed. If that’s the case, the average age probably sits around 10 years.

Does this also take into account the past utilization? If you calculate the utilization of the closed/charged off cards, those cards may average over 100% utilization.

Just curious how FICO calculates that. As previously mentioned, the age of the closed accounts are great.
