Hey credit warriors, a few weeks ago I made a video talking about why it is so hard to get a credit score above 800, and it is hard, compared to getting your score over 700, but not impossible. It made me realize that i have never actually made a video on how to get your credit score to that perfect 850 level which if you don’t know is the highest credit score possible in the FICO system that banks here in the US use. So let’s talk about how to get there, a score of 850, and not some funny mathematical magic to get three but an actual score of 850. If you like the sound of that why not subscribe for more credit and credit card tips and tricks every week.

So according to Experian, 1.2% of all credit scores in the US currently stand at 850, so they basically are the 1% of credit scores. But who are these people? Well the highest concentration of 850 credit scores is in Hawaii, although there are people with 850 credit scores spread all across the US. Baby boomers make up 58% of 850 credit scores, Generation X 25% and the silent generation 13% so to simplify that, 96% of 850 credit scores are held by people over 40 years old. Millennials like myself hold just 4% of perfect scores.

So that gives us a clue that it may have something to do with length of credit history since it is all old people who have these scores right? Well yes and we will get to that. But first how do these people handle their credit? Well on average they have more credit cards, 6.4 credit cards compared to the national average of 3.8. In addition they owe less debt. $3,025 on average, compared to the national average credit card debt of $6,445.

He's super cute, but literally didn't tell me anything that I didn't know before. I need specific examples to get from 800 to 850, not this blah blah blah.

I am a 50 year old and could never go over 820. I have two credit cards for 10 years and have 2% utilization. I was told that I needed 5 accounts and have only 3 (2 cards + mortgage), this was marked as a negative 🙁

I've been stuck around 750 for a while, but I have a ton of hard credit checks to wait out, as I had been a solo card holder until this year. Once those checks come off, I'm hoping to get a boost. Probably another 10 years to 850.

I see lots of people recommend credit scores for credit cards. I want to apply for the chase freedom flex which I’ve heard requires a 700 score and on the chase app it says my experian score is 725 but on the discover app it says 676 but it should be back to 707 this month with my utilization going back down to 0% which of those 2 scores should I consider when applying for cards?

I am at 850 and I can say that it is a great feeling. My oldest card is from 1996 and it I keep my utilization at about 0.5% with over $500,000 in available credit. I was stuck at 847 for 2 years and finally made it to 850.

Credit reporting agencies are Total and Complete Scams!!! I fixed my credit over the years and finally got it to a decent 680 Plus. In 2019 I got a offer from my Bank for a credit card and took it. Shot my Score to 797. The next year I got another card which lowered my score to the low sevens then got to more in 2020 and tool my score to high six's. Not I would pay a few months to show I can pay on time then pay off the balance in full. Did this twice. Have one card with a bit over 800 but others are paid off. My score are only 730 for all three agencies. Now how in the Heck does my score go from Almost 800 to 730 with exceptional payment history (as they say)? Why does a person need to have so many credit cards. I don't need ten and up. I have four and may get another through another bank i bank at and that is ONLY if they offer me one but I am not going to get all these cards that makes no sense. In addition no one and I MEAN NO ONE knows how they even come up with these formulas the people that work their don't even know or so they say! Its a Scam like most Agencies in the U.S.

I’ve pulled a perfect 850 twice. Over 20 years of history, never a late payment, never paid CC interested – always in full. I found a mortgage refinance pulls the score down. I thinks it too high of utilization, once paid down some score goes back up. I now stay at about 820 while churning cards. Wife stays around 845.

Definitely made it to the 800 club which is a dope feeling..Getting to 850 wold be nice but like you said, if your 760 & above , that’s just as good as well …on time payments, low credit utilization & mix type of accounts is the best way to go ..👍🏾

I had 850. But then I paid off my car loan (the only time payment I had), and my score immediately dropped 27 pts! Nothing else changed, no new credit, no inquiries, my CC utilization actually dropped slightly. Apparently they want credit type diversity.

Who cares? As a lending professional I can tell you once you break 740, being higher doesn’t get you a better “deal”. 740 or 850, same rate. Not to mention you have as many as 12 different scores in any given month.

I have 7 cards with a balance owed of $250 on one of them, $74K in available credit, and a car loan of $20K. The age of my credit is low since I just fixed it a few years ago. I'm in the high 700s, and can sniff 800. I don't know why I keep losing sleep over it though. Lol

I’m at 810. Longest card is from Amex since 06. Only debt is a car loan. I keep a few hundred across 2 cards to have a small balance. About 4 years ago I had absolutely no debt , no loans, and 0 cc balance. My score immediately went down almost 30 points…..I was like WTf😂.

Getting a 850 credit score isn't really a goal everyone should go for because it is really unnecessary due to the fact that all the factors of credit score algorithm must align. That is why a excellent score is 780 to 850. Getting a 850 credit score isn't like bowlers going for a perfect score of 300.

Good info to know how credit scores are calculated, have 7 credit cards in good standing 6+ years of history and low utilization percent. Currently at 800 only 24 years old so still have time to hit that 850 in the future.
