In this video, I am going to share with you how to set up your Vanguard 401k account for financial freedom in the future using Vanguard Index Funds.

I do not work for Vanguard, but my company utilizes primarily Vanguard Index Funds as investment options in the 401k retirement account.

Vanguard is the ultimate long-time history low cost index fund provider. I am utilizing Vanguard Index Funds in my Vanguard 401k portfolio because index funds, especially index funds that track the S&P 500 index or mid-cap and small-cap indexes, go up over time and provide significant returns.

I utilize (3) different Vanguard Index Funds in my Vanguard 401(k) portfolio to deliver significant returns in the account:

Vanguard Institutional 500 Index Trust
Vanguard Mid Cap Index Fund (VMCPX)
Vanguard Small Cap Index Fund (VSCPX)

My Fidelity 401(k) currently just has an assortment of index small/mid/large cap type funds & a target retirement date fund.
The expense ratios are high & i have a very small group of funds i can select, but there is the Fidelity BrokerageLink option that i’m thinking of utilizing, whereby I decide which % of my 401(k) to allocate for BrokerageLink and therefore have a much larger selection of stocks/funds to choose from.
I’d likely gravitate towards VOO, VTI, VYM and VIG. I like Vanguard’s index funds 👍

I opened my first Roth IRA last month. I have all of the (large, mid, small cap) pieces. Now I just have to allocate it and put it to work. Thank you for all of your videos! They have helped me so much and have given me the knowledge and confidence to do this myself. Thanks again!

Hi Joe, my employer 401k is with Transamerica and I have 100% of my 15% contributions going into their only Vanguard fund they offer (VTI). I also have a separate IRA directly with Vanguard and 100% going into (VTSAX), lastly I have a ROTH TSP with the Army National Guard and 83% of my monthly drill pay going into the C fund and S funds 50/50. I enjoy watching your informative videos, thank you.

I wish it was mostly vanguard for me. We have fidelity at work with only a few VG funds mixed in.
I'm 30 and hovering around 50k myself. Not great, not bad either.
Right now I'm split between contrafund & vftsx in my 401. Those two are the top performers from what is available to me.

My company contributes 6.4% plus 1 dollar per hour regardless if we contribute or not. It basically took the place of the pension. Anyways my 401k was up 32% last year and that was all in aggressive large cap growth. My 401k plan just recently added one vanguard fund and that was VFTNX I have 35% of my 401k in that fund.

    Blackrock Russell 1000 Index – 30 percent

    Blackrook Russell 2000 Index – 50 percent

Blackrock International Index – 30 percent

I don't have Vanguard options in my 401k, but these are pretty low cost index funds. I'm over-weighting small caps compared to a total U.S. market index simply because small cap stocks have better valuations right now. I want a good sized allocation in international stocks for the diversification benefit. Vanguard and a lot of the other firms expect international stocks to outperform U.S. equities over the next decade. Who knows whether or not that will actually happen?

I have a 401k with vanguard. There are only 10 other funds in the plan besides the target retirement funds. HACAX is good, but has a high expense ratio. VEIRX is ok but having a rough year so far. Maybe I should ask my HR department to add index funds to the plan. Great video. I’ll be watching all the others directly!
