There going to garnish a little over 4000 from my check ever week, don't know how much, but it is what it is. That man is handling it better than me. It sucks, really does. Money I don't have to spare.

Good for this guy. Seriously tough to start paying off debts. Seriously tough to get sober AND manage life after prison. Seriously tough to be garnished. Dave did a great job of making sure this guy know he's a tough, courageous guy. Hope the best for him. Character is not never making mistakes, it's what you do and how you handle yourself after they occur.

The ending of this video with the music is so powerful. 8:39 Dave’s smile is so comforting.

His story has a bunch of holes. Sounds like a class he took and got funded by a finical company not the school itself. If the loan is 5k there is no way it’s 22k. There is something he isn’t saying. As for him being garnished he is acting like there was no attempt by the creditors. I’m sure they called and sent letters but he ducked and dodged them or told them do what they have to do.

I think the garnishment would go directly to the employer and you would never know about it until your employer tells you…..somehow they found out where he worked

Why would they accept 5k cash when they have a judgment on you to receive 22k?

This caller should be very proud of what he’s accomplished. Pulling himself out of addiction, getting CDL, living with a roommate within his means, and earning a respectable income of 45k a year is a major achievement.

This is NOT good advice. Call a tax garnishment expert. Yes they might settle, but Dave seems like he is just guessing…

    Honestly, he should file bankruptcy.

He is working on getting his life together. He doesn't need this added stress. Chapter 7, wipe it out and build your life.

I called the company that was garnishing me and threatened to quit my job and go back to bartending cause they can't garnish tips if they didn't allow me to make smaller payments than what they were taking out of my check and that worked. They went from taking half of my paycheck to getting $150 a month.

Ok drugs and alcohol and bad choices in your past now get a lawyer and file bankruptcy and clean this up and with a little research and good choices you’ll bounce back in just a few short years.I know…I’ve been there and done it.

Dave, they're not going to accept $5,000 on a $22,000 judgement when they have a garnishment in place. Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 is best for him. Advise him to contact a Bankruptcy attorney asap. It takes all the decision making and stress out of his daily life. You yourself filed bankruptcy and on the outside looking in it's his best option.

I think he's lying about his sobriety. All he says at the begining is that he found out from his room mate that he's getting his wages garnished. He didnt even need to mention the room mate

If he’s an over the road truck driver , why is he paying rent ? OTR truck drivers are never home so you really don’t need a place to live and waist rent money on it.

I'm being garnished from a credit card that was 1200 in 1998 it is now 39k …at 14 years and 3 months they reinstated the debt by taking a penny from a bank account that was not mine…this debt is not on my credit report and no attorney wants to help only file bankruptcy..i offered 10k and they rejected the offer..in the meantime this is still accruing interest which is 28%

How difficult is for people to understand that you should pay the money that you owe. You have used it you have to pay simple.

Yes you can negotiate with the collector and hamper your credit rating or pay in full and be mentally satisfied.

If you would have taken money from Dave Ramsey he would have made your life miserable and taken the money. It's easy to sit there and speak till you don't feel the pinch.

I’m not sure I would suggest driving a massive vehicle as a career path for a person recovering from substance abuse.
