Whether it be American Express, Chase, Capital One, or Citi, there is a trifecta of cards out there for you. All of them can earn you thousands in travel redemption while easily beating out some of the annual fees the cards may have. The question is, which credit card company has the best trifecta out there?
Welcome back to the channel, I’m Jacob Fisher and today we are talking credit card trifectas. We have the Chase Trifecta, the American Express trifecta, capital one and even Citi.
Comparing the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Freedom Unlimited and Chase Freedom Flex.
Comparing the American Express Platinum Card, American Express Gold card and the American Express Everyday card.
Looking at the Capital One Venture card.
Comparing the Citi Prestige, Citi Premier and Citi Rewards+.
Which of these card trifectas, or singular card, is best though? Now if we just look solely at the points earning potential then using this random amount I came up with for spend in each category we can see that Amex has the highest point earning potential at the end of the year. I figured $2500 in dining, $1000 in general travel like uber, $3600 in grocery stores, $1500 in flights, $1500 in hotels and $1000 in gas stations a year. That seems okay to me.
If you are not staying at hotels then maybe consider one of the other trifectas. Let’s take a look at the travel partners each of these cards offer. Citi and Capital One have some similar partners, and I think comparing these two we have Citi coming out top. Personally, I see JetBlue and Virgin Atlantic as the larger players in this space. Not only are these more common airlines for me, but you can use Virgin Atlantic to book Delta airline tickets.
Let’s take a quick look at Chase and Amex. Virgin Atlantic on both, Southwest and United for Chase then Delta for Amex. If you fly Delta a lot then you would be probably better off with Amex despite being able to use Virgin Atlantic points to book some Delta flights. It doesn’t work for every flight, but I think it would be safer to earn points in the point currency of the airline you fly the most. Or the hotels if you would rather use your points for hotel stays.
